The one reason I miss "KYC"

Three months ago, I left a 25-year career in enterprise software to build something I believed in: privacy-first apps that treat your data as yours alone, full stop. No tracking. No analytics pipelines. No subscription costs. No cloud profiles quietly accumulating detail about how you live.

What I didn’t anticipate was what that would feel like from the builder’s side.

Over the past three months, hundreds of people have downloaded sistnt apps. Some have even found ways to take the time to send feedback, encouragement, questions, and occasionally, the kind of honest critique that makes a product genuinely better.

But the reality is that I have no idea who most of you are. Not because I’m indifferent, but because I built the apps that way.

The apps don’t phone home. They don’t report installs or sessions or usage patterns back to me. When you open Capture or Orate or Enumerator, nothing about that moment is transmitted anywhere. I don’t get your name, your email, or your voice engrams or whatever. Your data stays with you, on your device, under your control. That’s the whole idea.

Which means I can’t send you a thank-you note. I can’t express my appreciation for you by name. I can’t even confirm you exist beyond a download count in App Store Connect.

So instead, I’m writing this.

If you downloaded one of the apps: thank you. If you sent feedback - critical or kind - thank you even more. If you told someone else about it, or simply kept using it: that quiet act of continued trust is exactly the kind of proof I was hoping to find.

You’re anonymous to me by design. And somehow that makes this gratitude feel more genuine, not less. I’m not thanking a list. I’m thanking people I’ll never know, for choosing something built on a promise I intend to keep.

Three months in, I’m incredibly grateful - whoever you are. And there’s so much more to come!
